WE ARE NOT AN R.V. DEALER, THESE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY AND IN NO WAY AN ENDORSEMENT OF ONE MANUFACTURER OVER ANOTHER.
Today’s RV’s have evolved to triple and quadruple slide-outs that allow for comfortable year round living in a temperate climate, yet are light and maneuverable enough to be fully mobile. In fact, the term “RV” to describe these units has become something of a misnomer. They truly are mobile homes - finally.
At a recent RV show, we spoke to a Holiday Rambler factory representative about the multi slide-out trend. The manufacturers are now aiming at baby boomers looking for full time RV living and early retirement. RV Standards and quality have improved dramatically in recent years. Aluminum structural components give strength, rigidity and light-weight, while better roof and outer skins have eliminated leak problems.
In response to this, our Park is offering a safe and affordable home base for mature adults who live and travel in their RV’s, yet don’t want to be on the road year round.

THESE ARE OUR THOUGHTS ON THE SUBJECT . . .
Large diesel motor homes are the “King of the Road”. They are also the most expensive, but if you can afford it, “Why not?”.
Last August, my husband and I bought a 35’ diesel pusher motor home. What I bought was a “pretty face”; what he bought was a Cummins diesel with an Allison transmission, and air suspension that drives and rides like a dream. However, it does not have slide-outs. So, after six months of living in it, we know from experience it’s not big enough for full time living for a couple (a single person, maybe). It is long enough, however, and it is easy to maneuver and drive. Since we’re not prepared to trade it in at the present time, we will be spending some winter months in Mexico and the Southern U.S. This isn’t too hard to take, but staying home in comfort when we feel like it, is essential. This is the point in having slide-outs. A traveling bus is not a home! A poor choice is very costly, despite the initial price. It is the difference between success and failure in living comfortably for the long term.
Large, gas engined powered motor homes are less expensive than diesel, but also feature multi slide-outs. While they are more expensive on fuel, they are less expensive to maintain, so that the actual mileage covered annually, may make this a better choice.
The final option, (and there are only 3, in our opinion) is a 5th wheel and tow-truck. Big older 5th wheels are too heavy, and require a 1 ton or a larger truck to pull them (weight is crucial in a towed RV). So stay below 11,000 lbs, in fact it is now possible to go below 10,000 lbs with full slide outs in 32’+ (width, not length, is key). It can be pulled with an every day ¾ ton pick-up truck with reasonable fuel economy, and comfort. This is the least expensive option, and to many people will make the most sense. It is an economical and legitimate retirement life-style made possible by the advent of these new developments in R.V. manufacturing.
We are advocating mobility, using our Resort as an affordable and desirable home base for Canadian snowbirds. We think British Columbia’s ‘Sunshine Coast’ with its year round benign climate is Canada’s most attractive location, (on the ocean and in the mountains). We are what the West Coast is all about. We’re “small town”, yet close to Vancouver.
